Upgrading from QuickRun 1.x to SlickRun
Step 1: Run the SlickRun Installer
- We strongly encourage you to choose the default directory of
C:\Program Files\SlickRun
- We encourage you to make a
backup copy of your QuickRun directory (usually C:\Program Files\QuickRun).
Step 2: Back up your old JOT
- Start SlickRun if it's not yet running.
- In QuickRun, type "JOT"
- In SlickRun, type "JOT"
- Select all of the text in QuickRun's Jot. Hit CTRL+X. {Cut}
- Click on SlickRun's Jot and hit CTRL+V. {Paste}
- Close both Jots.
Step 3: Import your old shortcuts
- Type "Setup"
- Make sure you're on the "Shortcuts" tab.
- Click the "Import Button"
- Change the "Files of Type" dropdown to read "QuickRun 1.x Shortcuts"
- Navigate to the folder where QuickRun was originally installed. This
is usually C:\Program Files\QuickRun
- Choose QuickRun.dat and click "Open"
- Uncheck the checkboxes next to any shortcuts you don't wish to import
- Click "Import Selected"
Step 4: Remove QuickRun 1.x from your Start Menu
- Click Start | Programs | Startup. Right-click
"Run QuickRun" and choose "Delete"
- Click Start | Programs. Right-click the group
named "QuickRun" and choose "Delete"
Step 5: Remove QuickRun 1.x from your disk
- Verify that you didn't install SlickRun into the QuickRun directory (oops)
- Type "Quit" in QuickRun.
- Delete the QuickRun directory. This is usually
C:\Program Files\QuickRun
Geeky note: No worries that QuickRun left
trash in your registry-- When QuickRun was first written, there was no such
thing. ;-) As such, QuickRun did not use the registry, although SlickRun
now does. It's better this way, trust me!
Congratulations, you're done!
